Anjana is the procedure of applying medicated collyriumin lower eyelid using fingertip or by Anjana Shalaka

• Medicaments like Elaneer Kuzhambu or Anjana varti
• Anjana shalaka – 1
• Galanthika– 1
• Cotton ear plugs- 2
• Gauze pad – 4
• Triphala Kashaya – 200 ml
• Bowls –2
• Kidney tray – 1
• Vessel – 1
• Towel – 1

Preparation of tray

• Take a clean tray.
• Put medicine for anjana, anjanashalaka, triphala Kashaya in a bowl, towel, gauze pad, cotton ear plugs, galanthika.

Preparation of patient

• Check vitals.
• Jeernaharalakshana assessed.
• Vegotsarga

• The patient is asked to sit comfortably in a chair.
• The medicine is taken in a Shalakaor using the little finger by just dipping its tip in the medicine.
• The physician with his left thumb retracts the lower eyelid of the patient.
• The Anjana is applied using the right hand of the physician
• Anjana is applied inside the lower eyelid of the patient starting from the inner angle of the eye and slowly moving to its  outer angle.
• Thereafter the patient is asked to close the eyes and rotate the eyeball slowly.
• The doshas dissolves and come out in the state of lacrimation.
• Gently open the eyes once lacrimation stops.
• Clear vision is ensured by looking into a vessel filled with water.

• Eye wash or kshalana is the paschath karma of Anjana
• The patient is asked to lie in supine position with eyes open.
• The filtered triphala Kashaya is poured into the eyes in a circular pattern using a Galanthika.
• The Kashaya draining through the outer angle of eye is collected in to a kidney tray.

Various types of Ophthalmic disorders

• Fever
• Disorders of Head
• Fatigue
• Excessive lacrimation
• Redness, swelling of eyes
• Discharge from eyes
• After alcohol consumption
• Presence of anger, fear
• After sodhana karma

• Do not apply Anjana with painful manipulation.
• Application of anjana should be unidirectional (inner angle to outer angle of eye).

• Burning sensation of eyes even after kshalana: aschotana with seetadravya
