Thalapothichil or Shirolepa is a procedure of application of medicated paste on the head for a
certain period of time.

Preparation of tray

• Take a clean tray.
• Put towel, head band, plantain leaf, oil in a bowl, paste of amalakichurna and butter milk

Preparation of patient

• Check vitals.
• Jeernaharalakshana assessed.
• Vegotsarga

Preparation of Paste

• Take 200g of AmalakiChurna in a bowl.
• To this add 400 ml of buttermilk and sufficient quantity of water to get a thick paste.

• Patient is asked to sit comfortably in aknee highchair.
• Head is wiped with a towel.
• The neck region is draped using a towel to avoid spillage .
• The prepared Amlakipaste is applied over the scalp covering the entire head
• It is appliedfirst covering the upper portion ,then on either sides, back side , and last on thefront.
• Then a plantain leaf is placed over the paste, so that the whole head is covered.
• The vertex of the patient is marked by positioning the distance from tip of nose to vertex using patients hand .
• A small hole is made on the vertex of the head and churna is removed with a spoon.
• Oil is taken in gokarna and instilled in to the hole made over the vertex.

• After specific duration the paste is removed and wiped with a towel.
• Rasnadichoorna is applied over the vertex after bath .

• The minimum duration of the procedure is half yama or 1 1/2 hrs

• Make the lepa
• Consistency of Kalka should be maintained. Otherwise it will not stick over scalp or the material may fall into the eyes.
• Lepa should be removed before the paste applied over vertex gets dried up.

• Pratisyaya, jwara can So, appropriate medication should be adopted.
