The JambīraPiṇḍaSveda is performed with the bolus of Jambīra fruit pieces. This is mainly applied in Vātakapha predominant condition. It is usually done in frozen shoulder, plantar fascitis and traumatic conditions. It is Śophahara, Rūkṣaand Tīkṣaṇa.
Materials required:
Preparation of Poṭṭali:
Ingredients are fried in appropriate quantity of oil and are divided into four equal parts and Poṭṭalisare made accordingly (coconut & egg yolk can be added according to condition).
Pre- operative procedure:
The patient should be seated with leg extended over the Droṇiand Talaṃis applied with suitable oil /Cūrṇa.
Procedure:
Abhyaṅga should be performed with suitable medicated oil. Out of the four Poṭṭalis, the two Poṭṭalisshould be heated upto 40oC- 450C by keeping on the hot pan containing suitable oil. This Poṭṭalishould be applied to the patient as per the general procedure for about 30-45 minutes.
Post- operative procedures:
After the procedure body should be wiped with clean towel, Talaṃshould be removed and RāsnādiCūrṇashould be applied. The patient should be advised to take complete rest for half to one hour.
Precautions:
Complication and management:
Fainting – Sprinkle cold water on face, put talaṃ with suitable oil and medicated cūrṇas. DrākṣādiKaṣāya can be given internally.
Burns – Apply Madhu and Ghṛta,preferably ŚatadhaḥutaGhṛta.

Done in Very painful conditions
DhanyaPiṇḍaSveda is made with the help of a Poṭṭali containing Seeds of medicinal plants especially corns and Pulses.
Preparation of Poṭṭali
One or two Pala of dry seeds like Kulattha is taken and is cooked with 16 times of water. After getting boiled, these seeds are made into a paste. VātanāśakaCūrṇas like Śatapuṣpa,Methika, Saindava are also added and they are made into Poṭṭalis.
Procedure
Patient should be given Abhyaṅga. The Poṭṭali is kept in a pan with medicated oil and is heated. The therapist should check the temperature with the dorsum of hand and poṭṭali is applied to the body parts. Procedure similar to Patra PiṇḍaSveda / CūrṇaPiṇḍaSveda.
Duration
20-30 minutes
Post operative procedure:
After procedure, patient is advised to take warm water bath and RāsnādiCūrṇa is applied.
Indication: Arthritis, painful contraction of muscles
AṇḍaSveda is practiced mainly by Ayurveda Vaidya in Kerala. Comes under the Variety of ŪṣmaSveda.
Materials required:
Kola KulatthādiCūrna – 400gms
Methika – 100gms
Haridra – 100gms
Lemon – 24
Yolk of egg-10
Cloth – 2m, Thread – 2m, Nimba oil – 500ml.
Preparation of Poṭṭali:
Type 1: Cut the lemon into small pieces. Fry in mild heat adding adequate oil. When the yellow colour of the lemon starts fading, at the powdered drugs and fry well. To this add the yolk of boiled egg and mix well. Remove the pan from the fire and make into Poṭṭali. The contents once made should not taken for next day.
Type II: Scramble the eggs in frying pan using adequate oil and keep apart. Cut the lemon into small pieces. Fry in mild heat using adequate oil. As the yellow colour of the lemon starts fading add the powdered drugs and fry well. To this add the scrambled egg and mix well. Remove from the fire and make it into Poṭṭali.
