GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF DOṢAGATI FROM KOṢṬHA TO ŚĀKHĀ

There are basically two types of Doṣagati which are as below

  • Doṣas moving from Koṣṭha to Śākhā
  • Doṣas moving from Śākhā to Koṣṭha

Doṣas moving from Koṣṭha to Śākhā

Doṣas migrate from Koṣṭha to Śākhā and Asthi sandhis due to Vyayāma, Ūṣma (increase in body temperature by heat), improper regimen and increased propulsive velocity of Vāta.

According to Caraka Vyayāma, Ūṣma and Tīkṣṇa dravya sevāna, Ahitā or atimātra sevāna, Māruta drutatva are the causes of doṣa moving from Koṣṭha to Śākhā.

According to Cakrapāṇi, Vyayāma causes mala kṣobha and the doṣas move from Koṣṭha to Śākhā, Ūṣma and Tīkṣṇa guṇa increases Agni which in turn causes the doṣa to move from Koṣṭha to Śākhā. Hitasya Anavacāraṇata or following Ahitā āhāra and vihāra are also considered one reason for the same and finally the aggravated or increased propulsive velocity of Vāta throws out the doṣa from Śākhā to Koṣṭha.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF DOṢAGATI FROM ŚĀKHĀ TO KOṢṬHA

Doṣas moving from Śākhā to Koṣṭha

The doṣas return back from Śākhā to Koṣṭha due to opening up of blocked srotases, quantitative increase of doṣas, their liquefaction, transformation and loss of inductive power of Vāta.

Vṛddhi or increase in the volume of doṣa in śākhā, Viṣyandana or Vilayana or liquefaction of doṣas which naturally move towards Koṣṭha, Pāka, Sroto mukha viśodhana, Vāyu nigrahat are the factors responsible for the movement of doṣa from śākhā to koṣṭha which is usually done in the Pūrvakarma of Śodhana.

According to Cakrapāṇi Pākat means the doṣa which are initially saāma in nature, achieve nirāmavasthā and it leads to abaddhata or becoming free from śākhā and naturally moving towards koṣṭha. Srota mukha Viśodhana is removal of obstruction of the srotases and Vāyu nigrahaṇa means pacification of aggravated vāta which thereby helps in returning of doṣas from śākhā to koṣṭha.

In the aspect of Śodhana Vṛddhi and Viṣyandana is achieved by Snehana and Svedana, Pāka is achieved by Pācana and Svedana, Srotomukha Viśodhana is achieved by Svedana and Vāyu Nigrahaṇa is achieved by Snehana and Svedana.
